The American Society for Clinical Investigation

Introduction

Who We Are

The American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), established in 1908, is one of the nation's oldest and most respected medical honor societies.

The ASCI comprises more than 2,800 physician scientists from all medical specialties elected to the Society for their outstanding records of scholarly achievement in biomedical research. The ASCI represents active physician scientists who are at the bedside, at the research bench, and at the blackboard. Many of its senior members are widely recognized leaders in academic medicine.

The ASCI is dedicated to the advancement of research that extends our understanding and improves the treatment of human diseases, and members are committed to mentoring future generations of physician scientists.

How to Join

Membership to the ASCI is by election only and is considered an extraordinary honor in academic medicine and industry. Each year, ASCI members nominate those they feel have had significant accomplishments at a relatively early age -- 45 or younger -- in their careers.

Candidates for membership must be nominated by an Active, Foreign Associate, Senior, or Honorary ASCI member and have their nomination Seconded by an ASCI member in the same membership categories. Nominations for the following membership year may be submitted in the Fall of the current year.

The limit of new members each year is 80, as established in the Society's bylaws.
