Site TourWelcome to MySciNet and CTSciNet. Though these networks operate under distinct missions, the technological functionality on each site is the same. This site tour will offer a simultaneous tutorial of MySciNet and CTSciNet.
To begin please start by clicking on "Explore MySciNet Now" or "Explore CTSciNet Now" to enter the site.

Within the homepages you'll notice:

1. The MySciNet/CTSciNet welcome section which details what you can do on these sites.
2. Featured Articles and Recent Articles which are written by the
Science Careers staff and contributing writers. These articles serve the mission of each site, and offer a forum to continue the conversation through our commenting and voting widgets.
3. List of
partner and
sponsor microsites. These sites offer users the ability to learn more about these organizations and their commitment to the site's missions.
4. List of user-generated and partner/sponsor generated
groups. Users can request to create a group to use as a launching pad connect to other like-minded users.


After exploring the articles, groups, and sponsors, visitors can become registered users by clicking on
join now, located in the welcome section on the home pages, to register. Registering will allow you to fully participate
in the site's social networking functions. You will be able to comment
and vote on articles, messages, contribute ideas and content, and pictures. You will also be able to
connect to other like minded individuals within the online community.
The only required fields during registration are name, email, city, state (if applicable), and zip code. All other fields are optional. However, completing the optional fields will help you connect to other like minded individuals more easily.

After registering, the system creates a user
profile . You will be able to access your profile which contains the following information:

1. A tab with a list of your recent activities and a tab with a list of user generated comments so that you can continue to monitor a conversation from your profile. You can also subscribe to the RSS feeds for these tabs so that you are always part of the conversation
2. A section detailing the personal information that you chose to display on your profile.
3. Your list of
followers, people you are
following, and
connections. You can search for users through our search function. Or you can find users on groups or as they comment on the site's content. You can elect to follow another user. If they follow you back then a connection is formed and you will be able to send private messages to each other.
Following: Individuals that you are following. Their activities appear in your dashboard.
Followers: Individuals that are following you.
Connections: Formed when two individuals follow each other. Connections are able to send private messages to each other.

The dashboard will contain the following information:

1. List of recent activities from your followers, people you are following, and connections.
2. Your list of followers, people you are following, and connections. You
can search for users through our search function. Or you can find users
on groups or as they comment on the site's content. You can elect to follow another user. If they follow you back then a connection is
formed and you will be able to send private messages to each other.
3. List of the groups that you have joined.
4. List of the private messages between you and your connections.

Both MySciNet and CTSciNet host several user-generated groups and partner/sponsor generated groups. You can find the groups on the site's
home page. You can also use the search function to find groups that
match your needs. To join a groups click on the 'join' link located in the
about section of the groups. Groups allow users to collaborate on ideas, exchange photos
and messages, and comment on posts. Groups can be
public, which allow
everyone to join and displays the content on the public site.
